As the seasons change, we take our cars in to prepare them for the weather ahead. We check fluid levels in the summer to prepare for the extreme heat and we replace dry, cracked wiper blades for the winter season. Did you know your computer also has seasonal needs and maintenance to keep it running strong?
Computer maintenance is extremely important for the longevity of your computer and your data. What we’ve found at Sonic Systems, Inc is that most people and companies don’t have a maintenance program and they tend to be reactive instead of proactive. We like to use the common similarities between vehicles and computers to explain computer issues in a language people can understand. Computers have a power supply, similar to a car’s engine, an electrical system like a car, and even a cooling system like a car, just to mention a few. The similarities go on and on. You know you need to maintain your vehicle, or it’s not going to last very long, will be expensive to repair, or won’t function at all when you really need it. A computer is no different. Many computer problems can be identified before they actually become a problem, when they are identified early, often well before you even know you have a problem developing. When computer problems are identified early, they are usually cheaper to repair.
The most critical common mechanical problems we see are hard drive and cooling issues; especially in Laptop / Notebook computers. Hard drives are where your computer stores all of your important information, and are a critical mechanical component, and will fail eventually. Most likely when it’s not convenient for you! Your hard drive should be checked regularly to see if it has any corrupted or bad sectors. Hard drive sectors are where information is stored in the binary language of 1’s and 0’s.
Your computer’s cooling system also needs regular maintenance to keep it functioning properly. The cooling system is vital, because it keeps the CPU (Central Processing Unit) cool. There are also cooling systems for other important areas such as computer chips and the power supply. These need to be cleaned regularly to keep the computer functioning properly. If the cooling system isn’t kept functioning properly computer chips and components will overheat and fail; usually not cost effective to repair.
Your computer’s hard drive is where your life is stored in the form of important documents (tax papers, work documents, even recipes). You also have your pictures, music, movies, etc. To put this into perspective, turn your computer off and don’t go near it for a day or two. How many times did you “need” to go to your computer? That is like storing your money, jewelry, etc. in your vehicle unlocked with the alarm off, or playing Russian roulette.
At Sonic, we identify potential problems at the best time; BEFORE they become an issue for you. We recommend checking your computer twice a year. An easy way to remember this is to bring it in near the “Time Change” twice a year. The nice thing about computer check-ups, is you can do it when it’s convenient for you, and not when it is forced upon you in the form of a failure.
For our business customers, we offer a monthly remote maintenance plan. We login remotely and perform the maintenance once a month, and supply you with a report. Sonic Systems, Inc is responsible for the maintenance of several high desert business networks, and is very cost effective.
At Sonic Systems, Inc. we offer a free basic computer check-up that includes cleaning the cooling system. In most cases, the check-up can be performed in two business days.
